In an earlier story, we reported that the home-grown auto major, Mahindra & Mahindra is planning to bring in some low cost variants of its flagship models in India. Now a report published on Team-BHP claims that there will be a new base spec variant of the XUV 500, called the W4 within next few months.

Mahindra & Mahindra faced a low demand in its sales in April 2013 due to higher excise duty imposed on SUV models, so, to keep the momentum the company expresses its intentions to modify its products to even up with the new specifications for lower duty. But, modification might take some time, so a low spec variant of its products seems a right strategy.
The XUV500 which was doing superb for the company in terms of sales, have been hit hard due to change in excise duty policies. In fact, Renault Duster, which is comparatively a new entrant in the market has outpaced both the Scorpio and the XUV500 in April 2013 sales, and there will be a yet another competitor in the form of Ford EcoSport soon. So, we believe that such a strategy should work in favour of M&M.
This is all what we have for now, stay tuned to CarDekho for all the latest updates on the same. Cheers!
