Mahindra Scorpio Launched With ‘Intelli-Hybrid’ Tech in Delhi at Rs 9.35 Lakh

Leading domestic SUV maker, Mahindra & Mahindra announced the launch of its new-gen Scorpio, equipped with the Intelli-Hybrid technology on the 1.99-litre mHawk engine, for Delhi and NCR at a starting price of Rs 9.35 lakh (ex-showroom) for the S4 model, on Tuesday.

The manufacturer had recently upgraded its 'Micro-Hybrid' technology to ‘Intelli-Hybrid’ and introduced it on the 2.2-litre mHawk engine in the Scorpio, but not in the Delhi-NCR due to the blanket ban on diesel vehicles in the region.

Being a mild hybrid, the Scorpio will be sold with a concessional Value Added Tax (VAT) of five per cent in Delhi which translates into customer benefits of Rs 60,000-90,000 depending on the variant purchased, informed a press release.

As for the Intelli-Hybrid technology, the company claims that it reduces fuel consumption to about seven per cent by assisting the engine with electric power during acceleration. A sort of a start-stop system, the technology automatically switches off the engine within three seconds of the vehicle being stationary, and reuses the brake energy to charge the battery. 

On the occasion, president and chief executive (automotive), M&M, Pravin Shah called the move a step in the direction of making modern technology more accessible to a wider audience. “By reducing fuel consumption, Intelli-Hybrid helps Scorpio owners contribute towards a cleaner and greener Delhi and NCR,” he added.

The Mahindra Scorpio variants to get the Intelli-Hybrid technology will include the S4, the S4+, the S4+ 4WD, the S6+, the S8, the S10-2WD (Manual Transmission) and the S10-4WD (Manual Transmission). In terms of competition, the car locks horns with the likes of the Tata Safari Storme and the Honda BR-V in the Indian market.
