Mahindra W201 SUV speculated to launch before October

While the year 2011 has been flooding with the launch of a number of low-cost hatchbacks, towards the end of this year and the early next year is expected to witness a slew of premium segment car launches. Mahindra’s long awaited Mahindra World SUV is speculated to be launched by September or October at the most. A close source reveals that the Mahindra SUV will be initially launched as front-wheel-drive and then later with an all-wheel-drive variant.

The development mules of the Mahindra W201 indicate that the SUV will have special features including seven slat grilles, a through-out- the –day running twin-pod headlamps, turn indicators embedded on the rear view mirrors on either side and this SUV is huge by all means and the impressive masculine look is attributed to the huge front bumper.

Now coming to the specifications, Mahindra World SUV will sport the same powerful 2.2 litre CRDe engine as present in Mahindra Scorpio. The engine will be capable of producing more power as well as torque of 136 bhp and 320 Nm respectively. Overruling the speculations that Mahindra World SUV is to replace the Mahindra Scorpio, it has been asserted that, Mahindra World SUV codenamed as Mahindra W201 has its own standing, perhaps higher than that of Mahindra Scorpio. It is also rumoured that the SUV might also be powered with a 3 litre diesel engine pumping a 180 bhp power, but as mentioned, this could have been a rumour. The high-end all-wheel-drive Mahindra world SUV is supposed to use a Borg Warner 4x4 system.

The price of Mahindra World SUV is likely to range between Rs 11.50 lakhs to Rs. 14 lakhs considering the high-end variants into the account.
