Mahindra XUV 500 is now confirmed to be launched on 28th of September. None other than Anand Mahindra, the Vice Chairman and Managing Director of Mahindra and Mahindra has posted the date for the launch of the SUV in his tweets. The SUV will be launched in India and South African market simultaneously and is expected to be exported to other emerging markets as well. The Mahindra XUV 500 will have a stiff competition in the segment with the upcoming launch of Tata Merlin.

Mahindra XUV 500 review marks the SUV to be the first ever vehicle from Mahindra’s stable to come on the monocoque platform. A monocoque built is the integration of the chassis and the body cage into a single unit. The upcoming SUV is expected to replace the flagship model of M&M, Mahindra Scorpio, which has been ruling the segment for a decade now. However, Mahindra XUV 500 is said to be manufactured exceeding anybody’s expectations from a Mahindra vehicle. The new SUV is expected to come with well-designed interiors and is likely to be positioned above the Mahindra Scorpio at Mahindra XUV 500 price of around Rs 13 lakhs the base variant with a two-wheel drive option. The SUV is going to be introduced in two-wheel drive and four-wheel drive options.

As for Mahindra XUV 500 specifications, the car will come affixed with a 2.2 L CRDe turbo diesel engine to produce a peak torque output of 326 Nm. A peak power of 140 Bhp is transmitted to the wheels with the help of the transmission options of either 5-speed or a 6-speed manual gearbox. As a part of media hype for XUV 500, M&M has introduced a new gaming concept where the participants are expected to answer four questions. Getting the answers right, the contestant will be eligible to win a brand new Mahindra XUV 500 SUV. The other tantalizing prize in the contest is a free ticket to the Indian Grand Prix F1 show. Apart from the upcoming launch, Mahindra has two Ssangyong SUV launches slated in 2012.
