Mahindra XUV 500 to be launched today in South Africa

Mahindra XUV 500 will be launched in South Africa today, a day after this SUV was launched in India with lots of floss and frolic. Mahindra and Mahindra, the leading SUV manufacturer in India is eyeing South African market, as customer needs there are quite similar to India. Mahindra XUV 500 price is not unveiled by the company for Johannesburg, where the launch will take place. It was launched in the range of Rs 10.80 lakh- Rs 12.88 lakh (ex-showroom Delhi) in India.

Mahindra and Mahindra have chalked out its exports at 2,500 cars per month. According to the officials at M&M, 2,000 Mahindra XUV 500 SUVs will roll out per month from its Chakan plant, located on the outskirts of Pune which could be ramped up later as per demand. Currently, these units will be used for both-domestic and export needs which can be ramped up in future according to demand. However, M&M also have fully-owned operations in South Africa, which can also manufacture the Mahindra XUV 500. The operations can supply the SUV to neighboring countries such as Botswana, Zimbabwe and Swaziland too. Pravin Shah, chief executive, (international operations) automotive and farm sectors at Mahindra & Mahindra informed that Mahindra XUV 500 would be launched in South America, Australia and SAARC countries in the next six months.

Shah further said that a number of cars as well as auto-parts have already been shipped to Johannesburg, and that training for maintenance and marketing of the new SUV ‘XUV 500’ has also been imparted to the company's employees there. He also shared the details about Mahindra XUV 500 SUV being manufactured or assembled aboard. He said the company has manufacturing capacities in Brazil and Egypt where manufacturing of the product may take place later. The company also said that Mahindra XUV 500 would be tweaked a bit for oversees market. This is done to adhere to the prevailing regulatory environment in those countries as well as customer choices.
