Mahindra XUV500 all set to launch on 28th September

The country’s largest utility vehicle manufacturer, Mahindra and Mahindra is all set to launch its world SUV christened Mahindra XUV 500, on September 28. The Mahindra XUV 500 price is likely to be placed in the range of Rs. 12 – Rs 20 lakhs to take upon the possible competitors like Toyota Fortuner, Honda CRV, Skoda Yeti and Tata Aria. Mr Vivek Nayar, Senior Vice-President of automotive marketing division of M&M, had reportedly said that they have specifically set up a new assembly line for the production of their SUV, Mahindra XUV 500.

Mr Pawan Goenka, the President of automotive and farm equipment sector of M&M had said that, the XUV500, a home-grown product of M&M is the pride of Mahindra’s Research facility at Chennai. The SUV is manufactured as a monocoque design that integrates the body of the SUV and the Chassis into a single piece and is deployed with a transverse engine. A transverse engine has the crankshaft axis placed perpendicular to the long axis of the vehicle. While the company has plans to introduce the SUV in India and South Africa initially, it foresees to export the SUV in other markets as well. According to M&M, they do not envisage the Mahindra XUV500 to be a focused product; instead, they hope to set high production targets for the SUV, most likely to be in thousands.

Mahindra Xylo had received an overwhelming response, due to the pre-launch campaign held by the M&M in 2009. Considering its success, Mr Anand Mahindra, the Vice-Chairman and Managing director of M&M is conducting an opinion poll to decide on the most-suitable launch date for Mahindra XUV500 SUV. The other utility vehicles offered by Mahindra and Mahindra in India are Mahindra Bolero, Mahindra Scorpio, Mahindra Xylo and Mahindra Thar.
