Maruti Grand Vitara Had Over 57,000 Bookings Even Before Its Launch

The flagship SUV from Maruti is available with mild-hybrid, strong-hybrid and all-wheel-drive options

The Maruti Grand Vitara has finally been launched. The carmaker had opened bookings for its premium compact SUV in the first half of July, and the tally already stood at over 57,000 by the time prices were announced. While Maruti has not specified a date for the commencement of customer deliveries, we expect it to begin soon with the festive season upon us.

It was previously reported that nearly half the bookings for the Grand Vitara were for its two strong-hybrid variants, and the rest for the mild-hybrid variants. According to some dealerships, the waiting period for the top-spec hybrid variants already stands at six months or more. Even with Maruti’s impressive production capacities, we expect the Grand Vitara mild-hybrid variants to have an average wait time of four to five months for new buyers.

The Grand Vitara is to be sold via Maruti’s NEXA dealerships. It is a premium offering and currently the brand’s flagship SUV. The Grand Vitara is equipped with features like six airbags, a panoramic sunroof, ventilated front seats, a 360-degree parking camera, and nine-inch infotainment touchscreen with connected car tech. 

The 103PS, 1.5-litre petrol engine with mild-hybrid tech gets the choice of a five-speed manual or a six-speed automatic. Meanwhile, the 116PS strong hybrid powertrain uses an e-CVT auto. There’s also the all-wheel drive option for the top-spec variant with the mild-hybrid 1.5-litre petrol engine mated to the five-speed manual transmission. It also gets electronically controlled drive modes like Auto, Sport, Snow and Lock.

Maruti has priced the Grand Vitara from Rs 10.45 lakh to Rs 19.49 lakh (ex-showroom). It was co-developed with the Toyota Urban Cruiser Hyryder, whose strong hybrid variants are more affordable. The Grand Vitara takes on the likes of the Hyundai Creta, Kia Seltos, Skoda Kushaq, Volkswagen Taigun, MG Astor and Nissan Kicks.
