Maruti will soon be re-joining the compact SUV space with the Grand Vitara, its newest flagship offering. We have now learned that the carmaker will be revealing the prices of the SUV in the last week of September. The 2022 Grand Vitara has bagged over 50,000 pre-launch bookings until date. Maruti’s newest compact SUV will be available in six broad trims: Sigma, Delta, Zeta, Zeta+, Alpha, and Alpha+.
The Grand Vitara's Biggest USP
With the compact SUV, Maruti is turning over a new leaf as it is the first model by the carmaker to feature a strong-hybrid powertrain, which has been derived from Toyota. It is a 1.5-litre, three-cylinder petrol engine making 116PS (combined), mated to an e-CVT setup. The strong-hybrid powertrain has a segment-best claimed average fuel efficiency figure of almost 28kmpl.
The strong-hybrid powertrain of the Grand Vitara comprises an electric motor delivering 80.2PS and 141Nm. There isn’t any diesel engine on offer. The strong-hybrid version of the SUV, Maruti says, can cover 40 per cent of the distance and 60 per cent of the time in electric or zero-emission mode.
The Maruti SUV will also come with a mild-hybrid equipped 1.5-litre, four-cylinder petrol engine rated at 103PS and 137Nm. It gets a five-speed MT as standard and an optional six-speed automatic transmission. The MT-equipped variants are also available with an optional all-wheel drivetrain (AWD).

Plenty Of Firsts For A Maruti Car
Not only does the Grand Vitara bring with it a new powertrain option for a Maruti car, it has also made the carmaker provide a lot more creature comforts in its range of modern models. Debut features for a Maruti Suzuki car include a panoramic sunroof and a digital driver’s display. Its safety kit comprises up to six airbags, electronic stability programme, and a tyre pressure monitoring system (TPMS).

How Much Will It Cost And Whom Will It Take On?
We expect Maruti to price the SUV aggressively, with prices likely to start from Rs 9.5 lakh (ex-showroom) onwards. Entering a crowded segment, it will face competition from the likes of the Kia Seltos, Volkswagen Taigun, MG Astor, Hyundai Creta, and Skoda Kushaq.
