Maruti introduces fuel economy information display

All new Maruti passenger cars rolling out from January 01, 2009 onwards will have fuel efficiency mileage display information on them. Maruti will implement this voluntary fuel efficiency disclosure norm from next year. Maruti has already introduced a comprehensive training program for the dealer sales force across the country. Out of the 14,000 dealer sales force, about 9,000 have already been trained for the same.

Maruti Suzuki India Limited is the first Indian auto maker which implement the norms laid down by SIAM regarding disclosing fuel efficiency figures to the customers. The whole program is aimed to add more transparency to the disclosure of mileage figures for all the Maruti cars sold in India.

According to the SIAM official, all members of this association will necessarily to disclose this information display for all their cars from April 2009. The Fuel Consumption Consumer Information will be displayed at passenger vehicles and two-wheelers at the point of sale by all SIAM members. This fuel efficiency will be tested by three government approved agencies the International Centre for Automotive Technology (ICAT), Automotive Research Association of India (ARAI), and Vehicle Research and Development Establishment (VRDE).

Maruti has already got all its 12 models tested by these agencies and has already disclosed this information for its latest model, A-Star as 19.59 kmpl certified by ARAI.
