Maruti lays foundation stone for R&D facility in Rohtak

India’s leading car maker Maruti Suzuki India Limited today took an important step forward in scaling up its R&D infrastructure. Shri Bhupinder Singh Hooda, Hon’ble Chief Minister of Haryana today laid the foundation stone for the Company’s Research & Development Centre and Proving Ground at Rohtak. Present on the occasion were Mr. Shinzo Nakanishi, Managing Director & CEO, Maruti Suzuki India Limited, senior members of Haryana Cabinet and several senior state government dignitaries. The facility is spread over an area of 600 acres. Maruti Suzuki is expected to invest in the range of Rs. 2000 to Rs 2400 Crore to set up this world class R&D facility.  On the occasion, Mr Shinzo Nakanishi, MD and CEO, Maruti Suzuki India Limited said, “Maruti Suzuki’s R&D center at Rohtak will be equipped with latest R&D infrastructure and world class test tracks.

It will augment the R&D capability of Maruti Suzuki engineers manifold. This will enable us to design, develop and launch cars at a faster pace.” The R&D Centre at Rohtak will be an integrated facility for vehicle testing and evaluation, which is crucial for developing new car models. Maruti Suzuki, which has increased the number of engineers in a systematic way over the last few years, is scaling up its R & D capability to launch more new models and strengthen leadership in the fast growing Indian market. In recent years, Maruti Suzuki engineers have acquired significant know-how and hands on experience in different areas of automobile R&D. They have co-designed and developed global models like Swift and the recent one Ertiga, with their counterparts in Suzuki, Japan. The Company has introduced the highly acclaimed light weight and fuel efficient K-series petrol engine with next generation engine technology. In the area of alternate fuel technology too, Maruti Suzuki engineers have successfully designed and developed CNG and LPG vehicles.
