Celerio, the new sensation from the house of Maruti Suzuki has bragged a waiting period of more than six months in its Automated Manual Transmission variants (AMT) in the metro cities like Mumbai & Bangalore. We reported earlier that the Celerio received an advance booking of more than 14,000 within first 14 days of its launch, an approx of 1,000 bookings a day. Celerio is the first of its kind to get an automated manual transmission which combines the feel of automatic and manual gearbox without the use of clutch. The AMT variant of Celerio accounts for 51 per cent of total bookings; this has again been for the first time that any auto variant of car is more on demand than the manual one. However, it leads to increase in its waiting period, as the auotmaker imports this AMT gearbox from the auto component company Magneto Marelli.
The demand of Celerio is coming from across the cities especially from Delhi, Mumbai and Pune. Till now the automaker has booked more than 25,000 units. Also the company to create some space in its model line-up has discontinued its iconic 800 and A-Star hatch. The car was launched in the 2014 Auto Expo with a starting price of Rs 3.90 lakh. The power of 67bhp is generated by the 1.0 liter, 3 cylinder K-Next engine, powering the hatch. The car delivers a promising average of 23kmpl. The engine comes with an option of AMT or five-speed manual transmission.
