Maruti Suzuki India has produced several top-selling vehicles of their time, starting from Maruti 800, Alto to Swift siblings. Now Swift Dzire has become country's best-selling car, defeating its sibling Alto, which was enjoying the top position for years. Maruti Suzuki Swift Dzire outsold Alto by 854 units in May. Increase in the sales of Swift Dzire will surely help MSI enhance the profitability and margin, as the Dzire costs almost double than the Alto.
"DZire is proving us right. We had perceived five years ago the demand for compact sedan would be strong enough with customers propelling it in their pursuit to upgrade to bigger cars, which led to the creation of this new car that has emerged as such a strong product," Maruti Suzuki COO (marketing & sales) Mayank Pareek said.
The compact sedan segment has been turning out to be the most profit making section in the Indian car maker, with sales rising 21% in the last fiscal year, while the entire industry was down by 7%. So, being the top-seller in the compact sedan segment, Swift Dzire has topped the sales charts in May. The other compact sedans Honda Amaze, Chevrolet Sail and Toyota Etios too have been doing good for their respective makers.
Swift Dzire was launched in 2008, and it was selling about 10,000 units per month on an average, but the chopped down version of the Swift Dzire, which we call the second generation brought what MSI must have expected. The car has been selling around 17,000 units/month on an average.
