The year 2012 is finally getting to an end; we inspected some major launches this year, especially in the utility vehicle segments, which has no doubt cleared one thing that the future of the automotive world belongs to compact vehicles. However, entry level cars have always been the hot favourites in India, so as this year; Compact MPV/MUV and SUV were the two segments to record the highest growth even when the industry saw a dip in growth.
Out of all the major launches, the vehicles that became instant hits were Maruti Suzuki Ertiga, Renault Duster and Mahindra Quanto. Next to join the league is the Maruti Suzuki XA Alpha which was unveiled at this year’s Indian auto expo and attracted everyone. And why are we claiming it a BIG launch is the fact that it holds the MARUTI SUZUKI tag, India’s favorite brand. And if it is priced well, we know it will leave all competitors behind.
Showcased at the 2012 Delhi Auto Expo, the XA Alpha Concept looks a rugged yet a contemporary SUV with a unique front grille, eagle eye like headlamps, distinctive L-shaped tail lamps and broad shoulder line. Being sub-4 meter in length, it will certainly get the excise duty benefits, so we can expect it to be priced truly so competitive. XAα combines ruggedness and 'muscle' - the traditional attributes of a Sports Utility Vehicle - with elegance, a certain finesse and compactness.
However, nothing on the engine options have been disclosed by the company as of now, company has an option to use the upgraded version of its potent and proven 1.3-litre multijet diesel engine that does its duty to the Ertiga as well. Since it’s just a guess, we will update you on the same as soon as we hear anything from MSI, stay tuned to CarDekho. Cheers!
