Maruti Suzuki India has terminated the services of 11 employees at its Manesar unit today. Meanwhile, the strike at the facility continued on the third day on Tuesday taking the production loss figure to about 1800 units so far. Justifying the decision by the management, the Maruti official reportedly said that the employees were fired as they incited other workers to go on strike that has been called illegal by the management. The management also said that the workers went on strike without notice and thus disciplinary action has been taken against them. Even then we are continuing a dialogue with the workers on strike, said the management in a report.

It is also known that the management has rejected the demands of the workers saying that they do not recognize any other union and that the workers must have approached them first in case of any issues or before launching a strike. However, even after the deadlock continued on the third day, the management hopes that they would soon arrive at an amicable solution.

Meanwhile sources said that out of the 11 employees who have been sacked eight are office bearers of the new union- Maruti Suzuki Employees Union (MSEU). Where the impasse still continues, the agitating workers have decided to oppose eviction of the 11 terminated employees from the factory premises.

Notably, the Maruti India Manesar plant has an installed capacity of 1200 units per day and it produces hatchback small cars such as Maruti Swift and Maruti A-Star besides sedan cars Maruti Swift DZiRE and Maruti SX4.

There were no talks between the management and the workers on strike on Tuesday. It is said that the strike has happened at a time when Maruti is facing dip in sales due to the recent rise in petrol prices and inflation besides higher car loan rate.
