The Auto Expo 2012 will showcase the market leader, Maruti Suzuki India Limited, as an aggressive company ready to take on the growing Indian automobile market. The Auto Expo 2012 will showcase the Company’s strengths in arenas like products, product segments, technology, production capacity and R&D capability. A distinct departure from its usual self, the ace compact car maker, will showcase two UV segment offerings at the center stage of its pavilion this season. The global premiere of the UV portfolio at the Auto Expo 2012 will be an iconic event. It not just indicates the Company’s foray in the competitive UV segment, but also marks its preparedness for the fast and competitive market conditions ahead.
At the Auto Expo, Maruti Suzuki will do the global unveiling of the `country’s first compact MPV--- the Ertiga’. Giving company to this will be a Concept Compact SUV at the center stage. The company’s managing executive officer (marketing and sales), Mayank Pareek, says: “As the market gets more competitive, we have to gear up for the new dynamics. We are thus showing the best we can offer. The new models like the SUV, MPV and MUV will prove to the world that we are future-ready. We need to get first-hand feedback for this.” MSIL’s foray in `newer segments’, displays its confidence and preparedness for the future. As India attains the status of global market by 2015, MSIL will continue to retain the leadership position by expanding and strengthening its portfolio. The company targets to achieve the market share of over 50 % in the Passenger Vehicle segment by 2015. MSIL is in full command with its complete portfolio, additional capacities, newer segments which are supported by the largest retail network.
Suzuki Motor Corporation has awarded an A grade status to the Delhi Auto Expo, at par with global auto shows like Frankfurt, Paris, Tokyo and Shanghai. The global unveiling of the Ertiga, the Concept Compact SUV and new K-14 engine in New Delhi, also demonstrates the significance attached to the Delhi Motor Show by the parent company. Suzuki realizes that India will be one of the top global markets, almost by the next Auto Expo. This market will be much larger, and far more competitive. Suzuki has to lead in this market. This Auto Expo is a high-profile opportunity to showcase Maruti Suzuki’s preparedness for the future, and it appears to be making full use of this opportunity.
The development of the compact MPV, Ertiga in the UV segment is significant from the perspective of segment creation in the auto market. Significantly, Ertiga is the first compact MPV in India. As such, it creates a new segment. While the UVs hold around 15 % of the automobile, MSIL till now did not have an offering in this segment. The Ertiga positions itself in the MPV sub-segment that broadly account for 9% of the automobile market. After carefully studying the `mobility needs and requirements of customers’ of UV segment, Maruti Suzuki brings in compact Ertiga with an all new K14 VVT engine. The Ertiga will also come with a 1.3 Litre Diesel DDiS Diesel Super Turbo engine. The Ertiga will be Maruti Suzuki’s creation for urban, upwardly mobile Indian customers who are seeking a new generation product that stands out in clutter because of its compactness and utility. For MSIL segment creation is nothing new. Having experienced repeated success with Swift, EECO, Alto K10.
The Concept Compact SUV has been the hard work of Maruti Suzuki engineers in partnership with their Japanese counterparts in SMC, Japan. The Concept Compact SUV has been designed in a record time of nine months. In recent years, MSIL and Suzuki Engineers have worked in close partnership on several World Strategic Models such as the Swift, SX4 and A-star. Stepping up the efforts, MSIL and SMC are working on unification of the Engineering, Design and Development teams at Maruti with Suzuki at Japan.Under these unification plans, the Indian and Japanese engineers together are working on several new models for global markets. The UV segment offerings at the Auto Expo symbolize the success of this partnership in action.
On the Engine engineering front, after the overwhelming success of K-series engines, Maruti Suzuki would also use Auto Expo as a platform for the global unveiling of the brand new K-14 VVT engine. India will be the first market in Suzuki’s subsidiaries to have the K-14 VVT engine technology. At the Maruti Suzuki pavilion the display will include several international models from the SMC range, such as Solio, Palette and MR Wagon. The company’s managing executive officer (marketing and sales), Mayank Pareek, says,"We are bringing these cars in the expo to study consumer feedback."
