Country’s largest passenger carmaker Maruti Suzuki has aggressive future plans. The automaker is drawing up strategies to explore the rural markets of India and not by a little percentage, but a whopping increase of 20 percent. In fiscal 2013-14, company already covered a vast area of 93,400 villages, followed by 1.25 lac villages in 2014-15 and now the plan is to increase this number to 1.5 lac.

Maruti Suzuki India (MSI) Executive Director, Marketing & Sales, RS Kalsi said "In FY14-15 we established presence in 1.25 lakh villages. Target going forward will be to enhance presence in 1.5 lakh villages".

Maruti’s rural sales chart has increased to 4,15,380 in last fiscal, which is a 23 percent increment against FY 2013-14. In the last fiscal, company posted its best ever figures of 12,92,415 units in which about one fourth came from the rural market. So company is betting high on spreading its wings to every nook and corner of the country.

Mr. Kalki also said "At the start of the year (FY14-15), we targeted to sell at least one vehicle in 1.25 lakh villages. We have been able to reach even the smallest of villages- today more than 7 per cent of MSI's sales are coming from villages with less than 200 households," Kalsi said.
