Maruti to rope in 500 employees for Manesar plant

Maruti India is on a high, the company has just released its much talked about MPV Ertiga and now it’s in news for the company is going to hire about 500 workers in the 2012-2013 financial year for the second unit at Manesar assembly plant. With the new hiring , the total employees at the two units at Manesar have reached a figure of 2,200. For now the company has begun salary negotiations for a period of three years with the hired staff at its Gurgaon facility. The negotiations at the Manesar facility will begin in the next two to three weeks and the things are going to be finalized by the end of May. However, the application of this settlement will be applicable with retrospect from April this year only. The company has not disclosed how much the wage hike will be, but has said that the agreement will be signed for the next three years.
Currently Suzuki Motor Corp has 54.2 per cent stake in Maruti Suzuki India, where a total of 9,148 people are employed as on March 31, 2012. Last April the company had announced that it will hire 2,300 people, for the two Manesar plant and in the next two year span will increase the workforce to 11,000 employees. Maruti Suzuki India with an investment of over Rs.3,625 crore planned to open two new facilities with 2.5 lakh annual capacities each at the Manesar plant. One of them was opened last year only, the second one will be operational by 2012-13. With that, Manesar plant will have in all three units. The new employees that are going to be hired are for different verticals like technicians, diploma engineers’ trainees and lateral or the second unit.
