Maruti India is going to make its debut in the Multi-Purpose vehicle (MPV) segment with Maruti Ertiga in January 2012. The leading automobile manufacturer is expected to pull the wraps off the MPV Ertiga, which had been showcased in the 2011 Auto Expo as an RIII concept car. The expected Maruti Ertiga price is likely to be in the range of Rs 6 lakh-Rs 9 lakh putting it in the direct competition with Toyota Innova and Mahindra Xylo. The other potential competitors of Maruti Ertiga could be the newly launched Mahindra XUV 500, new Tata Aria, Mahindra Bolero and Force One.

The MPV is expected to provide a comfortable seating for 7 passengers, with reasonable interior space. However, the experts say that the MPV might lack the Innova level of interior space placing it in the mini MPV segment with 4.3 m in length and 2.7 m wheelbase. Maruti India is targeting the Maruti Ertiga as an Indian family car with its highly affordable price tag for an MPV. The Maruti Ertiga interiors are said to be well-designed to give the MPV a classy look. The roof mounted AC vents in the second and the last row passenger seats are provided for enhanced cooling for the passenger comfort. The 1.3 L Variable Geometry turbo diesel engine, which powers the MPV is similar to that of the Maruti SX4 sedan. Another all-new K-series engine is also being considered to debut on the MPV. According the sources, the new engine is called the K14, 1372 cc VVT engine that generates a reasonable 95 Bhp peak power.
