Mercedes envisages to push sales in India

As recently speculated it is said that Mercedes Benz India is about to widen its portfolio in the country by launching new cars at reduced price. The company’s major aim behind this step is to increase the sales of their cars in the country. The Indian auto market has seen a very large growth in the past few years, especially in the segment of luxury cars. This is the reason why the Indian market is seeing the cars from the major auto makers from around the world, who are trying to make a position for themselves in the Indian auto ,market.

Peter Honegg, managing director and chief executive officer of Mercedez Benz India Ltd (MBIL) said that they are looking forward to manufacture their popular models in the country to reduce their cost. The start would be with their famous Mercedes M class car which is really liked by the Indian buyers. He also said that within the time period of three years they would bring the premium A and B class hatchbacks in the country. The company at present has not decided anything regarding the price of these small cars but in UK the on road price of this hatchback lies between 12-18 lakh.

Mercedes Benz currently produces the Mercedes C, Mercedes E and the Mercedes S class in the country. The Mercedes C class is the cheapest car from this brand available in the country at present. The price of Mercedes C class car lies between 26-33 lakh (ex-showroom Delhi). The company is also trying to localize the resources more to reduce the price of its cars, an investment of 250 crore has been made for it.

The biggest competitor of Mercedes Benz in India at present is BMW which has wonderful sales figures in the past few months. MBIL sold about 3,798 cars in the time period between January and June whereas BMW sold 4,524 cars in the same time. Though Mercedes Benz has not yet defeated BMW but it seems that it will soon achieve it, as the sales figure in the past six months are about 58% more than 2,402 cars sold by the company in the corresponding months last year.
