Mercedes-Benz becomes partner of The Open Championship

Mercedes-Benz to be part of the oldest and most prestigious international golf tournament: The Open Championship after the PGA Championship, 2012 Ryder Cup and The Masters.

Mercedes Benz declared the information at the Dubai Desert Classic, a golf tournament on European Tour . The German auto mobile brand wishes to extend its commitment and involvement towards the international golf events. The Open Championship dates back to 1860, which will now be sponsored by Mercedes-Benz , including this tournament Mercedes Benz will be part of three major golf tournaments out of four.

Anders Sundt Jensen, Vice President Brand Communications, Mercedes-Benz Cars said that the international golf stands on the paradigms of Nothing or Best, so the luxury car maker is proud to be associated with the tournament. He later explained that the company wishes to use the tournament as a platform to aggravate marketing activities and customer care measures. The company will also associate the Mercedes Trophy with The Open Championship such as “Drive to the Major”, an international opportunity to qualify for the Monday Foursome.

Mike Tate, a Director of The R&A stated that the event is now associated with Mercedes Benz which is a great advantage. The company is the great supporter of the game globally.

Wilfried Steffen, President and CEO of Mercedes-Benz UK said that the organizers are happy to have Mercede-Benz as the ‘Official Car of The Open Championship’. The German makers will organize an exclusive chauffeur service at the biggest championship, along with The R&A will also be helping with the communications support for the whole tournament. He also said that for its brand this amalgamation is a great platform. The company looks forward at the event as an opportunity to promote the close link between the sport and Mercedes-Benz.

Mercedes Benz has been associated with golf since 1980's and in 1990 the auto manufacturer also became the title sponsor of Mercedes German Masters the first professional golf tournament played in Germany at an international level. Along with it, it also sponsored Mercedes Benz Championship in Cologne for the year 2007 to 2009 and in Hawaii from 1999 to 2000.

Mercedes-Benz is exhibited with the Mercedes Trophy, it is the auto giant own international tournament series for the amateurs is taking place for 22nd time in 2011 participants from over 43 countries which includes over 58,000 players. The final match will be held in Stuttgart the "birthplace of the motor car", where the palyers will get an opportunity to receive an exclusive insight to the Mercedes Benz world.
