After its A-, B-, CLA- and GLA-Class, Mercedes-Benz has just taken the covers off its fifth front-wheel-drive platform offering- the CLA Shooting Brake. This is the German manufacturer's second such vehicle, the first being the 2012-revealed CLS Shooting Brake.

"The new CLA Shooting Brake is the latest member of our successful family of compact models. The range, which now includes five models, covers an extremely wide spectrum: with the spacious B-Class sports tourer, the youthfully dynamic A-Class, the avant-garde CLA-Class Coupé and the compact GLA-Class SUV, we cater for a host of different customer wishes in this segment," said Ola Källenius, Member of the Divisional Board Mercedes-Benz Cars, responsible for Marketing & Sales. "Like its big brother, the CLS Shooting Brake, the CLA Shooting Brake is targeted at active customers who are looking outside of the mainstream for a car that impresses with a high utility value."

The car features a dynamic design incorporating tapering roofline and four doors, unlike a traditional shooting brake. To add that extra oomph to its appeal, the car comes fitted with the same body kit as the AMG counterpart, including the identical roof spoiler with a Gurney flap. An 'OrangeArt Edition' with a whole bunch of orange accenting the grille opening, wheels, interior stitching, and much more, will also be offered in a limited-edition model.

There will be several variants available at launch: two with diesel engines and five with gasoline units. The most potent of these will be the CLA45 AMG Shooting Brake, which like the CLA45 AMG sedan sold here will pack a turbocharged 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine good for 355bhp and 450Nm of torque. 4Matic all-wheel drive will be standard on this model and an option for anyone buying the 211bhp CLA250.

It will be offered with a number of four-cylinder engines, including two diesel and petrol mills. The range-topping offering- the CLA45 AMG Shooting Brake, comes equipped with a 355bhp 2.0-litre turbo unit. Its standstill to 100 kmph is just 4.7 seconds and the top speed is electronically limited to 248 kmph. While the entry-level model will be a front-wheel-drive CLA180 with mere 122 bhp. All models will be coupled with a seven-speed dual-clutch transmission as standard, just like the CLA sedan.

Pre-bookings for the CLA Shooting Brake range will be open from next year in Europe, while its first public appearance will take place at the 2015 Geneva Motor Show in early March, and the deliveries will commence shortly after that. And importantly, Mercedes has no plans to bring this to India, at least in the near future.
