Mercedes Benz India has donated two of its latest cars and star diagnostic units to Government Polytechnic institutes in Aurangabad and Pune for training purpose. The initiative is a part of company's mechatronics apprenticeship programme, running from past few years.

Speaking on the occasion, Eberhard Kern, Managing Director and CEO, Mercedes-Benz India, said, “The Advanced Mechatronics course by Mercedes-Benz has been designed keeping in mind the increasing complexity of the technical processes which demands a workforce that has expertise in mechanical, electronic and informatics skills as well as in other modern automation technologies. Apart from these skills, the workforce will also develop their interpersonal skills through the programme.”

“The unique aspect of the partnership is the continuous involvement of Mercedes-Benz in the planning of the syllabus on modern automotive technology, supply of Mercedes-Benz cars for training purposes, training of lecturers and supply of technical tools and equipment to the students. As a part of our CSR initiatives and our continued support to the Advanced Mechatronics training course, we are donating a third Mercedes-Benz car to Government Polytechnic Pune and a second car to Government Polytechnic Aurangabad. We will also be handing over highly sophisticated, state-of-the-art Star Diagnosis equipment to the centers conducting the Advanced Mechatronics course” he added.

Mercedes has been supporting an advanced one-year-long Mechatronics programme, offered in these institutes, to help students keep updated with advancement in automotive technology, as well as to develop skilled manpower. It is being run in Pune and Aurangabad since 2006 and 2009 respectively and was later introduced at Government Engineering College Trivandrum (GECBH) last year.

“The exchange of knowledge from Mercedes-Benz allows students to gauge and learn key competencies which are necessary to adapt to the fast changing industrial requirements,” the company stated.
