Mercedes-Benz is working aggressively in India, and has launched a series of new products to further improve its market share. It is also the first maker to open up a completely new segment - premium hatchback with A-Class. However, it lacks in compact SUV/Crossover segment, where its global competitors Audi and BMW already have Q3 and X1 crossovers in India, and are doing extremely well for their makers. Now, it seems like Mercedes-Benz is all set to make this segment more competitive. The company is planning to launch the GLA compact SUV in the Indian car market by early 2014.
Showcased at the 2013 Auto Shanghai as a concept, the Mercedes-Benz GLA promises to be one of the most stylish and attractive crossovers in its segment. WorldCarFans has managed to click the first interior photo of the upcoming GLA. More interestingly, the cabin looks similar to the A-Class hatchback with features like circular air vents, silver chrome accents and a free standing Command display directly sourced from A-Class. The engine line-up of the 2014 Mercedes-Benz GLA will most likely to be carried over from the hatchback - 1.6-litre petrol and 2.2-litre diesel, both mated to a 7-speed dual clutch automatic gearbox as standard.
The 2014 Mercedes-Benz GLA will be unveiled at Frankfurt Motor Show this year, and will come to India by early 2014 or might be unveiled at the next year's Delhi Auto Expo.
