Mercedes-Benz has launched the S350 CDI today at Rs. 1.07 crore (ex-showroom, Pune). The new S-Class was launched earlier this year with the S500 variant only. Now, the S-Class is also available in a Diesel engine, which is a 3.0-litre V6 engine that produces 620Nm. The power rating is 254bhp and 190kW.
This variant of the new S-Class is available from today at all Mercedes-Benz showrooms. This is the same engine that powers the GL-Class and the ML-Class. Mercedes-Benz has begun the body work of the S-Class including the paint job in its Chakan plant. This will help to reduce the cost of the S-Class.
Today being the Environment Day, Mercedes-Benz has installed solar roof top panels that will be functional from today. These solar panels have the ability to produce 100kW of power, this reducing the company's power consumption and therefore increasing it's carbon footprint.
The S-Class is now available with a 4.4-litre V8 petrol and a 3.0-litre V6 diesel engine. This is the new generation S-Class and comes loaded with several first in class features. This is the new flagship for the German manufacturer that placed the previous generation at the start of this year in January.
Eberhard Kern, Managing Director & CEO, Mercedes-Benz India commented, " True to its legacy the new S-Class has emulated its global success in India as well and has been a phenomenal success. We are delighted to manufacture the new S-Class 350 CDI at our state-of-art facility in Chakan, Pune. To offer the much awaited diesel option of the state-of-the-art production facility in Chakan, Pune. Quality has all along been the strength or Mercedes-Benz and the S350 CDI production in India is set to take this success story of Mercedes-Benz India. The installation of solar power plant also reiterates our commitment to achieve excellence in manufacturing by introducing environment friendly initiatives in India."
"The team working on the production of the new S-Class comprises the most experienced colleagues at Mercedes-Benz India and they are extremely proud of their accomplishment on producing the S-Class over the years. We are confident that with the manufacturing of the new S-Class 350 CDI in India, we will be able to create a new benchmark and also meet the rising demand for the car in India." he added.
