Chinese car manufacturer Great Wall Motors has begun setting up shop in Sanand, Gujarat, with an investment of around Rs 7,000 crores. The manufacturer will make its India debut with a presence at the 2020 Auto Expo in Delhi. What can we expect at its pavilion? Well, it recently pulled the wraps off its mid-size SUV, the Haval H6, which is a premium offering that will rival the Hector, Harrier and the XUV500 if it comes to India.
The GWM Haval H6 makes good use of chrome on the five-slat horizontal front grille, around the fog lamps and also gets auto LED headlamps with DRLs. Its side view reveals a European design with a sporty rear sloping roofline, side cladding, and 19-inch alloy wheels. Yes, there is the ‘all-important’ panoramic sunroof on offer as well. The stubby rear end gets wraparound LED taillamps, Haval badging at the center of the boot lid and a sporty bumper with quad or dual exhaust setup.
The interior of the Haval H6 reminds you of a host of premium cars. The chunky leather steering wheel seems inspired by the Land Rover while the extended AC vents are similar to the Audi. Uplifting the ambiance further is the 9-inch touchscreen infotainment unit (no Android Auto, Apple CarPlay) and the 12.3-inch instrument cluster with a virtual cockpit system.
Other convenience features include dual-zone climate control, cruise control and an 8-way power-adjustable driver seat. Safety equipment onboard comprises a 360-degree camera, blind-spot detection, electronic stability control, six airbags, ISOFIX and more.
The global-spec model is available with two Euro5-compliant petrol engines: 1.5-litre turbo (163PS/280Nm) and a 2.0-litre turbo (190PS/340Nm). Both engines get a 7-speed DCT, which sends power to the front wheels.
GWM is primarily known for its large vehicles and pickup trucks in its home market and that is what it’s going to offer in India as well. Apart from the H6, expect the Chinese carmaker to showcase its Toyota Fortuner-rival, Haval H9 as well.
