Mitsubishi has launched the Pajero Sport with a mild facelift along with an addition of automatic transmission. The AT trim features 2WD and is priced at Rs. 23.55 Lac while manual one with 4WD is available at Rs. 23.80 Lac (Ex-Showroom New, Delhi). Pajero finally gets a long awaited automatic option while its arch rivals like Toyota Fortuner, Ford Endeavour and Hyundai Santa-Fe are offering an automatic option for long. Lets roll you through - how on-paper these off roaders compare with each other!
Exteriors
Starting with the sheer size, Ford Endeavour is the longest car here with an overall length of 5,062mm while the rest three lies marginally below 5000m. Having said that, Ford Endeavour is the oldest lady here on sale since 2003, received a mild facelift recently but looks kind of old school compared to its contemporary rivals and indeed it’s the only vehicle here featuring a boot lid mounted spare wheel.
Mitsubishi, the current buzz in the segment, gets a nip and tuck treatment and courtesy to it, new Pajero Sports finally gets a refreshment! There’s a new sculpted bumper on offer while grille sports company’s current design. Apart from it, Pajero is unaltered. Furthermore, Toyota Fortuner the second longest car here, features a blend of old school boxy design with dapper curves. Moreover, Toyota also offers TRD Sportivo kits to spruce-up your ride. Hyundai Santa-Fe among these is the most flamboyant SUV and the only vehicle pinned on a monocoque frame instead of ladder frame construction of the rest three. Moreover, Santa-Fe sports unique-to the-segment flings like daytime-running LEDs, LED taillamps and machined alloys.
Interiors
As new Pajero Sport is a mild facelift, the SUV carries over the dashboard of the outgoing model. The central console of Mitsubishi offers touchscreen infotainment system similar to that of Anniversary Edition. The system offers CD/MP3, tuner, navigation, reverse parking camera and bluetooth phone handsfree. Fortuner sports Innova-esque dashboard and comes with touchscreen infotainment system offering bluetooth, CD/DVD and Aux-in with reverse camera assistance. Ford Endeavour also offers touchscreen infotainment system with built-in navigation and reverse parking camera screen like the Pajero Sport in the top-end 3.0L 4x4 trim while 3.0L 4x2 offers DVD player with roof mounted screen. Hyundai Santa-Fe comes with best looking contemporary dashboard with touch-audio system having reverse parking camera assistance. Pajero also comes with automatic air conditioning with three row louvers similar to Toyota Fortuner; Hyundai Santa-Fe comes with dual-zone fully automatic climate control with three row vents. Moreover, Ford Endeavour is sole SUV in here that offers manual controls for the AC but it also offers independent controls for rear aircon.

Safety
Speaking of the safety feature, Mitsubishi Pajero Sport offers dual front airbags, ABS and EBD with hydraulic brake boosters. Ford Endeavour comes with dual front airbags, ABS with EBD, while driver and front passenger side airbags is offered with 3.0L TDCI motor. Toyota Fortuner offers dual-front airbags along with ABS, while ABS with EBD and BA (Brake Assist), VSC (Vehicle Stability Control) is offered with 2WD AT only. Hyundai Santa-Fe offers dual-front airbags and ABS with EBD. While the top-end variant - 4WD AT offers six-airbags, electronic stability control, vehicle stability management control, hill ascend and descend control, brake assist, rollover assist and advance traction cornering control.
Engine
Mitsubishi continues to carry the 2.5L DI-D turbo intercooled diesel with this refresh. It also offers second highest torque figure in the segment, next to Hyundai - with manual it offers 400 Nm while with automatic it chucks out 350 Nm. Ford Endeavour is the only SUV that offers two engine options - 2.5L TDCI and more powerful 3.0L TDCI diesels and like Santa-Fe it also offers automatic with 4x4 option. Toyota fortuner offers sole 3.0L D4-D diesel but like the Pajero Sport, Fortuner does not offer automatic in 4x4 state. Hyundai Santa-Fe on the other hand featuring 2.2 CRDI is the most contemporary SUV mechanically with 6-speed MT and AT and also the most powerful in the lot.
