M&M eyes youth with its rugged SUV Scorpio

Mahindra and Mahindra added another version of Mahindra Scorpio last month. This new SUV is known as Mahindra Scorpio EX and is said to be around Rs. 41,000 less in price than Mahindra Scorpio LX. However, there are few things that Mahindra Scorpio LX has and the new Scorpio EX doesn’t. These things include rain and light sensors, cruise control, steering mounted audio controls, airbags and it is powered by the older version of diesel engine.

The major highlight of Mahindra Scorpio EX is that this SUV is about 60% more powerful than that of Mahindra Scorpio LX, but it doesn’t have central locking and power windows. So the need to launch a cheaper version of Mahindra Scorpio was that it wanted to target the youth professionals and college students, who love to own a SUV of their own as it offers so much space and the personality of Mahindra Scorpio is totally rugged.

As per the VP of marketing of the automotive division of Mahindra and Mahindra, Mr. Vivek Nayer, the fans of Mahindra Scorpio on social networks went up and touched the mark of 500,000 now. And most of the people are between the age of 18 to 25 years, who don’t own  Mahindra Scorpio, but will be glad to purchase if the price slashes down a bit. So, these are the people who will pursue their family to buy Mahindra Scorpio, which in turn will increase the buyers. Therefore, because of this reason, Mahindra and Mahindra decided to launch Mahindra Scorpio EX at a lower price and promote it on the social networks.

The major trouble for Mahindra and Mahindra was how to put the price tag on the new version of Mahindra Scorpio EX. However, it was for sure that it shouldn’t be priced below Rs. 7,00,000. The basic reason why Mahindra and Mahindra didn’t want to change the premium image was because it might be a self-defeating activity.  So now instead of Rs. 11.89 Lakh, Mahindra Scorpio Range starts from Rs. 7.21 Lakh only.

However, it is for sure that Mahindra’s new Scorpio will have to face a very tough competition as there are so many SUVs in India that are not only powerful but are also affordable. Companies such as Fiat, Maruti Suzuki India, General Motors and Skoda have compact SUVs within the price range of Rs. 10 Lakh.  Some of the other popular Mahindra cars include, Mahindra Bolero, Mahindra Xylo and Mahindra Verito.
