M&M plans to assemble products in Russia

The leading car manufacturer from India Mahindra and Mahindra recently announced that within the coming two years, the company will start the assembling of their cars in Russia with the help of the distributors of their South Korea subsidiary SsangYong. As stated by the president of Mahindra and Mahindra, Mr Pawan Goenka, the company is in talks with the distributor of SsangYong in Russia. He feels that it is still the beginning and slowly things will fall in place and the company will be able to decide on the products that would be assembled.

He further informed that SangYong has been assembling semi knocked down units in the Russian market for quite some time with the help of Solaris, who is its distributor. However Mahindra will assemble its products through CKD route in Russia.Mr Goenka further mentioned that the estimated time period for the entire project to be started is somewhere around 2 years. On the other hand, as far as the Indian car market is concerned, the company is planning to increase the manufacturing of its popular SUV, the XUV 500 to close to 5000 units in a month. However the company has yet not finalised a deadline for it.

Because of the increasing demand in the Indian car market the company has decided on slowing down on its plans of entering the Australian and other global markets with its XUV 500 SUV.

Currently on the global front, Mahindra XUV 500 is being sold in the South African car market and around 400 units have been sent there till now. Thus the company is satisfying the demand of around 100 cars per month in South Africa.

Further Mahindra is getting ready to introduce the SUV Rexton from SsangYong in the Indian car market later in the year around the festive season of Diwali. The car is going to be built at the Chakan Manufacturing plant.
