India’s leading SUV maker Mahindra & Mahindra is now planning to bring in all three new vehicles by next year. Pawan Goenka, Executive Director, Mahindra & Mahindra stated that in year 2015 the company will launch two sub-4 meter compact SUVs and one light commercial vehicle. In a move to expand the model line-up, M&M also announced the plans to invest Rs 4,000 crore at the Chakan plant. With the fresh investment, the total capacity of plant will stand at 7.5 lakh units annually.
In order to develop new fuel efficient engines, the company is also working closely with Korean arm Ssangyong. "We were slow on launches in 2013 and 2014. Now we are back with new launches. In 2015, we will launch two sub-4 meter compact SUVs and one light commercial vehicle. All the three would come on completely new platforms," Mahindra & Mahindra Executive Director Pawan Goenka.
Recently in Chennai, our senior correspondent took some spied pictures of Mahindra’s compact SUV, codenamed S101. The car was under testing in complete camouflage cover. The compact SUV is based on monocoque platform and will compete against the likes of Ford EcoSport and Renault Duster. On seeing the spied images, it seems like the S101 embraces sported dummy headlamps and tail lights. The car looked a bit stout, with a tall body and shorter length (under 4 meters), but is still a long way from the complete design.
