The Kodiaq RS, Skoda’s first-ever vRS SUV, will make its global premiere at the upcoming 2018 Paris Motor Show

Officially announced in June 2018, Skoda has finally revealed that its anticipated Kodiaq RS will be unveiled this October. The Czech automaker’s debutant full-size SUV, the Kodiaq, will soon become the brand’s first-ever SUV to be part of its performance-oriented vRS family. The Skoda Kodiaq RS will join the Octavia RS, which was the first ‘vRS’ series production model (debuted in 2000).

Aside from the Kodiaq RS, Skoda has also unveiled the new logo design of the ‘vRS’ badge. Instead of the green colour found on the Octavia RS, the Kodiaq’s new logo features a shade of red.  Skoda highlighted that the new red colour symbolises ‘how sporty and virile’ the RS family is. The new ‘vRS’ logo will also be used by Kodiaq’s other RS siblings.

Unlike the Octavia RS, the Kodiaq RS will be offered with a diesel engine, at least for now. The engine in question is the most powerful twin-turbocharged version of Volkswagen Group’s staple 2.0-litre diesel. The 2.0-litre BiTDI in the Kodiaq RS puts out a healthy 239PS of max power and a whopping 500Nm of peak torque. Skoda says that this is the most powerful diesel in the brand’s history.

Skoda is yet to confirm whether the Kodiaq RS is meant for the Indian market or not. The fact that the carmaker already sells the RS version of the Octavia in India, and has only one variant of the Kodiaq on offer - that too powered by a rather humble 150PS diesel engine - raises our hope of getting the go-fast SUV. The Kodiaq is priced at Rs 34.83 lakh (ex-showroom, pan-India). The Kodiaq RS, if launched with a premium of less than Rs 3-4 lakh over the standard model, would be among the most powerful cars in the sub-40 lakh price bracket.
