These days, consumers are willing to buy value-for-money cars. Cars like Maruti Alto, Maruti Swift, Toyota Fortuner and Toyota Corolla are the best sellers in their respective segments. But the car which has been successful in winning numerous hearts in India is Maruti’s top selling premium hatch, Swift. Last year, the auto industry saw very sluggish sales and therefore consumers literally shunned pricier cars and drifted towards the cars which offered more features in fewer prices. Seeing this decisive factor, Maruti swift came out to be a clear winner. In the small car segment, Maruti Alto, which is the best selling car in A segment retained its top spot in spite of such cutthroat competition from cars like Tata Nano and Hyundai Eon.

Maruti Alto is offered in 800cc and 1000cc variants, which in total comprise of about 30000 units sales monthly that is way more than Hyundai Eon and Tata Nano sales (7500 units and 9000 units per month respectively). According to Shashank Srivastava, who is the chief GM of marketing, Maruti Suzuki India, consumers seek value, but not essentially at low prices. People these days are drifting towards higher variants of small cars, which basically comprise of 60% of the Indian car market. Despite of about 52 sedan launches in the country, people wish to go for those 25 cars in the small car market. And due to this thinking and shift, Maruti in spite of competition with cars like Toyota Etios Liva, Volkswagen Polo, Nissan Micra and others, Maruti Swift emerged a winner.

Mr. Srivastava also pointed out that the demand for base variant of Swift has tumbled down to 12% from 25% in 2007 as now consumers prefer the variant with music system and power windows. Recently, Maruti India came in with the upgraded version of Maruti Swift Dzire, which is dominating the entry level sedan section of the Indian car market with a whopping 15000 units monthly sales, which is more than that of Tata Indigo (9000 units per month) and Toyota Etios (4000 units). The new Swift Dzire is offered with some high class features, which also comprise of automatic transmission and luxurious interiors, top class music system, power windows and so on. Therefore, it can be said that Maruti Suzuki India rules the Indian car industry and Maruti Swift gladly and proudly rules the hearts of Indian consumers!
