When the original BMW X5 was launched by BMW in 2006, it marked Bimmer's first entry into the then-rapidly growing SUV segment. Though the model still remains a strong seller for the company, trailing only the 3 and 5 Series, but, the company has decided to relaunch the X5 in an upgraded version. The new BMW X5 will be launched on the 21st September. As told earlier, it will not be a brand new X5 but an upgraded version of the original one.

The updated version of BMW X5 will have some mild visual updates. The company has announced that it will be launching the X5 SUV in a ceremony in Gurgaon on the 21st of this month (September). The lower front fascia of this new version has been reshaped with the larger outboard air intakes which are inspired by the X5 M. Likewise, the rear bumper is re-sculpted and both ends get more of their bodywork painted in the car's main color instead of black. So it is expected that the new additions to X5 will include new interiors and new bumper.

The more important changes in the new version of BMW X5 include the underhood where both Petrol engines have been replaced. The base engine for the xDrive35i is now the same single turbo, 300-horsepower N55 3.0-liter inline-six finding its way into most other 2011 BMWs. Apart from this, the xDrive50i gets the 400-horse twin-turbo 4.4-liter V8 found in the X6, 7 and 5 Series Gran Turismo. Both the gas engines are combined with the new eight-speed automatic also. The gas versions also incorporates brake energy regeneration for the reduction of parasitic losses. The diesel-powered xDrive35d which made its entry an year ago, is already accounting for about one-third of X5 sales.
