New Hyundai Creta In Russia Gets Cosmetic Tweaks But It’s Not The Facelifted Model

The facelift, which should be revealed later this year, will likely sport more significant styling changes

The second-generation Hyundai Creta has debuted in the Russian market with some mild cosmetic differences over the India-spec model. This is, however, not the facelifted model spied testing recently that is expected to arrive as soon as 2022.

The Russia-spec Creta features a smaller studded grille, instead of the horizontal chrome strips running across. It also gets a mildly different bumper design, with additional detailing around the fog lamps and a revised air dam. Another cosmetic tweak is visible on the tailgate where the tail lamps are no longer connected. Instead, a small part of the lamps extends onto the tailgate and is met by a new fold in the design that makes the rear look sharper.

Hyundai is offering the Russian Creta with the choice of a brown and black interior that is not offered on the Indian model. The rest of the cabin looks the same, with a 10.25-inch touchscreen infotainment system in the centre and a 7.0-inch multi-information display in the semi-digital instrument cluster. The Russia-spec SUV also gets different powertrain options: 1.6-litre and 2.0-litre petrol engines, both with manual and automatic transmissions. It’ll even be available with all-wheel-drive variants.

As mentioned earlier, a camouflaged Hyundai Creta was spied testing in the brand’s home country of South Korea. This test mule of the upcoming facelift suggested changes to the headlamp cluster and the overall grille shape as well. Apart from the cosmetic updates, the facelifted Creta should get some additional features too. This new version of the Hyundai Creta is expected to debut globally later this year and could arrive here in 2022.

The Creta is currently offered in India with three engines: 1.5-litre petrol and diesel and a 1.4-litre turbo-petrol. Each engine is available with an automatic transmission but the turbo-petrol unit misses out on a manual option. The compact SUV is priced between Rs 10 lakh and Rs 17.66 lakh (ex-showroom Delhi) and rivals the likes of the Kia Seltos, Nissan Kicks, and the upcoming Skoda Kushaq. It also takes on the affordable variants of bigger SUVs such as the Tata Harrier and MG Hector.
