The Thar is set for an October 2 launch.
The new Thar’s roof and engine options have made us believe that the SUV can be as practical as it is adventurous. The recent polls we conducted on Instagram show a leaning towards the Thar’s new approach, so let’s take a look at your preferences.
You get a choice of three roof options in the new Thar which you can read all about here. The convertible soft top and the fixed hard top option are being offered by Mahindra for the first time ever, apart from the existing fixed soft top option. So we asked you for your preferences. Surprisingly, the majority picked the fixed hard top which is a more practical option, considering the convertible soft top suits the SUV’s adventurous appeal and is IP54-rated dust and water resistant.
Next up, we decided to compare the engines, with the new petrol engine being another first for the SUV. Almost two-thirds of the votes went to the tried-and-tested mHawk 2.2-litre diesel engine, which puts out 130PS and 300Nm. Almost one-third of the votes went for the more powerful, all-new 2.0-litre direct-injected turbo-petrol offering which puts out 150PS and up to 320Nm.
While we haven’t asked your choice of transmission yet, the Thar now serves a new entry in the transmission department as well. Available in the top-spec Lifestyle (LX) variant, it gets a 6-speed automatic transmission for the first time with both petrol and diesel engine options. Let us know in the comments which transmission you would like in your Thar.
Set for an October 2 launch, the Mahindra Thar will lock horns with the upcoming Force Gurkha which is also slated to launch around the time.
