Not very often do we get to discuss about the super luxury car segment which hardly manages to touch the 1000 unit sales mark in a year. But, Porsche India has given us such opportunity which will soon launch the all new Porsche 911 in the country in April this year. Just as ever, the luxury super car sporting a makeover will be imported as a CBU featuring a Porsche 911 price of above Rs 2 crore and will be an important part of Porsche’s growth plans for the Indian car market. As a super luxury car manufacturer, Porsche managed to sell just 140 units in the year 2010 which did begin to lift up to 322 units in 2011 despite their plans to touch the  500 unit mark as predicted by the car manufacturer.

The German super luxury car manufacturer, however has high growth plans for the Indian market to meet the predicted growth of 6.8% next year with a couple of new dealerships opening up in near future. Unlike many of the car manufacturers in this segment, the Porsche cars in India are imported by a local dealer Precision cars India with a dealer network of 8 so far. The latest dealership opened in Bangalore recently in December opens yet another gate to facilitate increased Porsche car sales in India which offers a range of models featuring Porsche Cayenne SUV, its best-selling model till date, Porsche Panamera, Porsche 911, Porsche Carrerra and Porsche Cayman. But, the sales numbers of 322 is not easy to come as it becomes increasingly difficult to sell a super luxury car above Rs 1 crore price tag, which is when it actually falls in to the segment of the super car.

There are not many players in this segment and the ones we have in India are Ferrari, Maserati, Lamborghini, with its latest model at a Lamborghini Aventador LP-700 price of Rs 3.69 crore, Rolls Royce, Bentley and Bugatti. And with so much competition at hand Porsche India boasts of a 30% market share in this pinnacle segment of the country. The super luxury car segment and the luxury car segment in India are the most ineffectual of the lot despite the downturn in sales in rest of the departments . And hence we see the cart wheels moving in spite of the slow sales where the top car manufacturers did not fail to increase their product line-up in India with Ferrari FF Super car, Buggati with Veyron sports car and Mercedes-Benz right on the toes to introduce the S600 Pullman brand to improve its stance in this segment.
