We reported earlier that Skoda might bring the next generation Fabia by the end of this year and voilà the car has been caught testing at the Nurburgring fully camouflaged. Fabia is expected to make its world debut at the Paris International Motor Show in October this year. The car will reportedly go on sale in Europe this fall and Skoda India might drive it later this year in our country. In general, the updated Fabia will compete against the likes of nex-gen Hyundai i20, upcoming Tata Bolt, facelifted Maruti Suzuki Swift, new Ford Figo and VW Polo.
As far as design is concerned, there's straight resemblance with the Octavia and Rapid (not the Indian one, European version). At the front, the third generation hatch features company's revised logo and grille which is flanked around as we can figure out from the test mule - wrap-around rectangular headlamps. The side window line mimics the new Octavia ditching the current Fabia layout. At the back, the vehicle boats an integrated spoiler with Rapid (European version) esque taillights. The vehicle is expected to receive day-time-running-LEDs (strip LED). Interior of the new Fabia will be simple and elegant adoring the design of the Octavia with expected features like touch screen infotainment systems, new steering wheel and auto AC. In a nutshell, the new Fabia seems to be completely new car from ground up with new powertrains and flamboyant and edgier silhouette.
Nex-gen Skoda Fabia resembles the European Rapid
Speaking of the engines, the car is likely to get the engines from the updated Polo which is expected to make its Indian debut later this year. The 1.2 liter TDI unit powering the current VW Polo and Skoda Fabia will certainly be replaced by a powerful 1.5 liter four cylinder TDI unit churning out nearly 89bhp. The 1.5 liter TDI produces power in two state of tune, 89bhp for the Polo/Fabia while the VW GT TDI mill, and if Skoda launches Fabia RS same motor, can produce power in excess of 100bhp. On the petrol front, the Fabia might get the 1.2 TSI from the Polo which gathers 103.5bhp and 175Nm of max torque. The facelifted Rapid will get the 7-speed DSG (dual clutch) automatic transmission, so there's a room of possibility that the new Fabia will get this AT box as VW offers it in Polo GT TSI.
