Nissan Datsun Cars Will be Priced Below Rs 4 Lakh, to Rival Alto and Eon

CarDekho has reported sometime back that the Japanese auto-giant Nissan have appointed Ashok Leyland's correlated company Defiance Technologies to develop the cars under the brand Datsun in India. Today we reveal to you some more specific information based on the revelation done by Ashwani Gupta, Program Director, Datsun Business Unit, Nissan Motor.
He mentioned that the price of Nissan Datsun Vehicles will be below Rs 4 lakh and the company will also launch these two vehicles in the markets of Russia and Indonesia as well along with India. He further revealed that the design part will be done in Japan while the entire development will take place in India at Nissan's Chennai facility. The company is yet to decide on sharing of dealerships with the existing Nissan showrooms or setting up separate new showrooms. FYI Nissan discontinued the brand Datsun long back in 1981, and now in 2014, it will be re-introduced in a several markets in 2014.
Datsun will initially be launched in Indian, Indonesian and Russian car markets as per the Nissan Power 88 plan, which is a comprehensive, 6-year business plan that will accelerate the company’s growth across new markets and segments around the globe. As per Power 88, Nissan targets an 8% global market share with 8% sustainable profit by the end of 2016.As the above mentioned are growing markets, there are many first-time car buyers and Nissan envisions the potential ability of Datsun models to capture a major chunk of the market share. The two Datsun vehicles which will head first are codenamed K2 and i2 which will compete with the likes of Maruti Suzuki Alto and Hyundai Eon. And as per the word on street, the K2 hatchback will be built on the old Nissan Micra Platform to make it fuel efficient and good looking. These vehicles might be unveiled at the 2014 Delhi Auto Expo.
