Nissan-Renault Alliance has announced that it will end cross badging in the Indian car market. The upcoming Nissan Terrano sports utility vehicle will be the last cross badged product, which will share its concept with Renault's hugely popular Duster. We already seen Renault-Nissan Alliance using cross badge engineering to develop couple of products like Renault Pulse shares concept with Nissan's Micra and Renault Scala sharing platform of Nissan Sunny. Terrano SUV will be the third product to share the platform used to develop Renault's Duster.
Duster's sibling Nissan Terrano is expected to hit the Indian shores by the September, 2013. This could be the beginning of an end of badge engineering in India, which is a strategy of selling one car with two brand names. The two brands aims to develop vehicles faster yet cheaper, but the step seems to be failed and the companies have not received the results they wanted.
Couple of days back, we reported about Nissan-Renault Alliance future plans for the Indian car market. The Alliance CEO, Carlos Ghosn confirmed that they are developing new vehicles to meet the specific demands of new car buyers in the world's fastest growing market. Both the companies will continue to share their production facilities, and are working on a new program, named CMF-A, which covers the category of affordable vehicles in the Common Module Family.
This is all what we have for now, stay tuned to CarDekho for more updates on the same. To read more about the Nissan-Renault Alliance, new CMF platform - Click here
