Nissan to launch its electric car 'Leaf' by DEC 2010

Nissan Motors announced on Tuesday that it is going to launch its new electric car with a price tag of over $25,000, in one of world's largest car market United States. The electric car has been named as Leaf and is expected to hit the showrooms by this year end. Leaf is basically a hatchback model which will be launched with a base price of $32,780, but as company is providing tax credit of $7,500, it will be available at $25,000.
The Leaf is basically a hatchback car which can run about 100 miles on a single charge. The booking for this car is going to start from 20th April this year and company is expecting to receive about 25,000 booking by end of this year.
As the pricing of the model is quite competitive, other electric car makers like General Motors are forced to launch their cars with a competitive price tag. General Motors has said that the company will decide the pricing of its upcoming Chevrolet-Bolt model only after analyzing the pricing of Nissan's Leaf. According to the General Motors spokesman the company is expecting that the pricing of General Motors will have some influence on its pricing decision.
The Chevrolet Volt can run around 40 miles in a single charge on a full charge after which a small gas engine starts to provide power. The company is looking to price this model anywhere around $35,000, on which company will provide a tax benefit of $7,500.
On the other hand in Nissan's domestic market Japan, the company is going to launch Leaf model with a price tag of 3.76 million yen ($40,000).
