Most people in Singur still want the Tata back there. This is the official statement made aired by West Bengal Chief Minister, Mr Buddhadeb Bhattacharjee. He made it clear in an interview with a Bengali news channel yesterday. He said that they had conveyed their feelings to the Tata. Comments from the Tata still awaited. Mr Bhattacharjee disclosed that his government was in talks with a number of companies, including a Chinese firm, for setting up industry in Singur. However, he denied to give the details. He explained that the state Industry secretary was currently in China.
To a question, the Chief Minister categorically denied that his government had signed any agreement on Singur as was claimed by Trinamool chief, Ms Mamata Banerjee at Raj Bhavan last year in the presence of Governor Gopalkrishna Gandhi. He added that it was a joint statement and there was no mention of the return of 400 acres. It only mentioned how much land they can return. They had calculated that 70 acres could be returned.
