Peugeot-Citroen has plans to set-up a plant in Sanand and the French auto-group PSA had held a press conference on 15th of February in Sanand. However, due to the crisis in the European market, PSA Group has decided to hold back its plans. The company was earlier testing its Peugeot 207 and 508 in Indian conditions, mostly in Mumbai and Pune. Now, that has been stopped.
Indian market is definitely an important place to be in and the French Auto Group isn’t denying the fact. The group is keen on its India plans and at the moment they have an office in India. They plan to come to India and set-up a plant in Sanand, however things have been put on hold for the time being.
An official statement from PSA Group to CarDekho read, “Taking into account the European market crisis which impacts significantly the Group’s cash flows and profitability, PSA Peugeot Citroën announced its intention to reschedule its project in India and construction operations on the production facility in Sanand at the occasion of its financial results on 15th February 2012.
However, the Indian market remains strategic for PSA Peugeot Citroën, fitting well into the mid-term international development of the brand. The timing of the introduction of Peugeot is currently being revised in line with the rescheduling of the project. However, PSA Peugeot Citroen has its offices in Ahmedabad and its association with the Government of Gujarat remains positive and strong.”
