Mercedes-Benz has recently introduced the A-Class luxury hatchback, which is powered by the diesel engine sourced from Renault. Now, some media reports say that the next generation Mercedes-Benz C-Class will also get Renault's new 130PS 1.6-litre four-cylinder common rail turbo-diesel engine. The vehicle has been spotted number of times in European streets ahead of its global premier sometime by early 2014.

Mercedes Benz C Class

French newspaper Les Echos reported, Renault will soon announce the collaboration with Mercedes-Benz to supply its new engine for the next-generation C-Class and Vito models, scheduled to hit dealers in 2014 and 2015 respectively. Renault engine powered model is likely to be called the C200 CDI, and the vehicle is expected to be launched by 2014-15.

The 1.6-litre engine currently powers models such as the Renault Megane, Fluence, Scenic and the Nissan Qashqai, it is expected that it will undergo some tweaks in order to be fitted longitudinally in the C-Class engine bay and may tuned to offer more power. The engine will be coupled to a manual or automatic transmission, to transmit power to the rear wheels. Renault's engine will only power the entry-level C-Class models, while the upper variants will get larger engines developed by Mercedes-Benz. The current powertrain, 1.6-litre dCi develops 129bhp at 4,000rpm and 320Nm of top torque at 1,750rpm. The engine powers the Fluence sedan, returns a fuel economy of 21.21kpl (51.1 US mpg).
