Renault targets at making India its 11th largest auto market. The French auto maker also assumes that by that time it will locally manufacture six car models. Renault targets to roll out more than three million car models by 2013 across globe over 2.6 million units it sold in 2010. In India at present it has no car model in the market.
Carlos Ghosn Chairman and CEO Renault said that the company is looking forward at the growth in the emerging auto markets such as Russia, India and Brazil. He further mentioned about the Indian auto market and said that in terms of sales the company has grown nine folds in three years. The auto company is yet to gain 20 spots for India to become its 11th biggest auto market. Ghosn said that Brazil is speculated to become the company's second biggest auto market in the coming three years time, however Russia is expected to step five spots up to become its fourth biggest auto market.
Ghosn said that for the Indian auto market currently the company does not sell any car model. By 2011 the company wishes to launch the production of Koleos abd Fluence in Chennai. The company plans to locally produce a SUV by 2012 and also for catering to the small car market it will built a small car model based on Nissan platform which will be designed for India. After 2013 the company also wishes to enter the profitable Indian small car segment with a car model designed and developed with a special focus on the local auto market.
Jerome Stoll Executive Vice-President- Sales and Marketing, Renault last month stated that the small car will be positioned above the ULC which Bajaj Auto is making for it and its partner Nissan Motors. Renault will continue to invest in the emerging auto markets as it does not see much prospects in the European auto market that will be able to overcome its crisis soon. As per the company's plans from 2010 to 2013 Renault will invest as many as 5.7 billion euros in the industry out of which 40 per cent will be for France auto market.
