Renault has displayed a more rugged looking version of the Kwid hatchback at the 2016 Sao Paulo Auto Show. Called the 'Renault Kwid Outsider Concept', this hatchback is a Brazilian-spec model with added claddings. By looking at the Renault Kwid images, It seems that this concept bears a striking resemblance with the Kwid Climber Concept, which made its debut at the 2016 Auto Expo in India. The Brazilian-spec model of the Kwid is heavier than the Indian models as it has an enhanced structure for safety along with more safety features.
The Outsider Concept has a lot of green highlight on the exteriors, which is highlighted by the matte black plastic cladding. To beef-up the look, Renault has given the concept a revised bumper, chunky fog lamp housing, roof-rails, larger wheels and cladding on the wheel arches. The front grille also gets green accents on the top right corner.
On the inside, the upper glovebox has made way for a passenger airbag. The AC vents remain the same with an orange outline. The instrument cluster, gear lever and the steering wheel also have orange accents which match the outside paint. A major change on the inside is the presence of an analogue instrument cluster in place of a fully digital one in the ongoing model. Also, the power window switches have been moved up and are placed just below the infotainment screen, rather than being on the centre console.
The Kwid Outsider Concept is based on the manual variant of the hatchback. In India, Renault is about to launch the 1.0-litre AMT variant of the Kwid. This AMT variant uses a knob shifter to switch between drive, natural and reverse. We have driven the hatchback and are quite impressed with the absence of the clutch pedal. Have a look at the Renault Kwid AMT first drive review.
