A partly camouflaged Renault Kwid was spied testing on Argentinian roads. The veiled area hints towards some design changes in the India-spec Kwid to make it fit for international markets. Interestingly, the spied small car has an impression of a ‘floating roof’ with black plastic accents covering the C-pillar. It also carries a different side moulding.
Ahead of its launch in South American countries the Kwid’s safety is also being reworked and is expected to carry four airbags and ABS along with slight changes to its body architecture to help it pass the strict Latin NCAP crash tests.
The Brazilian subsidiary of Renault, Renault Brazil has confirmed that it indeed is the Kwid for South American markets, and is co-developed by Renault Technology Americas (RTA) and Renault Design Latin America (RDLA).
As far as the engine is concerned the Renault Kwid is most likely to get a 1.0 litre SCe three-cylinder flex-fuel motor running on both petrol as well as ethanol fuels. This will be mated to a five-speed manual transmission though an Easy-R or AMT is also likely to make its way in the mid and top Kwid variants.
The Renault Kwid will be locally assembled at the Brazilian plant while parts will be supplied from the Kwid’s global production hub in India.
