Renault mulls to launch Made-in-India hatchback car by 2012

Recent report in Indian Automobile industry states that French car maker Renault intends to enter the Indian small car segment in coming years. It is worth mentioning that Renault-Nissan joint venture is third largest car manufacturer in the world.According to reliable sources, Renault India is planning to launch compact Renault hatchback car which is expected to be manufactured in India. As for now Renault India is carrying out a viability study to manufacture small cars in India. It is said that Renault India will be utilizing the ingenious engineering and designing proficiency of its India based R & D centre.

However, sources also revealed that French company will be launching the new small car in the highly competitive segment of hatchback cars and in the presence of popular players like Maruti Swift, Ford Figo and Volkswagen Polo. Also, with small car price being tagged with Rs. 6 lakh, this hatchback car is expected to run on Indian roads by 2012. Till now Renault India hasn’t disclosed any technical or designing details regarding the small car.

Furthermore, company will launch five new car models in India by 2013. With an aim of avoiding the huge excise duty, Renault India will expand their presence in India by manufacturing cars locally. Naming it as second phase of development, this process is expected to start by year 2015.Recently Renault India entered Indian market with the launch of premium sedan Renault Fluence, which is currently gaining heavy applause from the Indian buyers.
