The premium compact SUV was a CBU offering in a single, fully-loaded variant

  • Skoda opened bookings for the Karoq in India in March 2020.

  • Only a 1,000 units of the Karoq were imported to India for 2020 and all have now been sold.

  • It was offered in a single, fully-loaded variant at Rs 24.99 lakh (ex-showroom India).

  • Its feature list included a virtual cockpit instrument cluster, nine airbags, power-adjustable driver’s seat, and a panoramic sunroof.

  • Skoda’s entrant in the compact SUV space in India will be based on the Vision IN concept.

The Skoda-VW duo is prepped to launch two new India-built SUVs in 2021. But for 2020, we got the Skoda Karoq and the Volkswagen T-Roc as fully built imports, both priced quite high given their size. Skoda-man Zac Hollis has now confirmed online that Skoda has sold out all 1,000 units of the Karoq compact SUV allocated for the Indian market for 2020.

The Karoq SUV was available for bookings since March but was launched in late-May in a single top-spec variant priced at Rs 24.99 lakh (ex-showroom India). It was powered by a 1.5-litre turbo-petrol engine mated to a 7-speed DSG automatic, tuned to an output of 150PS and 250Nm. That’s the same powertrain offered in the Volkswagen T-Roc.

Skoda offered the Karoq with features such as an 8.0-inch touchscreen infotainment system with connected car technology, all-digital instrument cluster, a panoramic sunroof, 10 LED ambient lighting options, and an electrically adjustable driver’s seat. For safety, it was equipped with nine airbags, a tyre pressure monitoring system, driver fatigue alert, ISOFIX child seat anchors, and electronic stability control.

It took Skoda only nine months to sell all 1,000 units of the Karoq despite its premium positioning which made it even more expensive than its Volkswagen sibling. Given its popularity, the carmaker could consider making the Karoq a locally assembled offering. For the Indian compact SUV space, Skoda is due to introduce its made-for-India offering that will be based on the Vision IN concept.
