Skoda mulls over new cars, model launches starting August

Eyeing a bright future ahead, Skoda India has lots of plans for India. In the coming years Skoda will introduce new cars in India besides launching new range of the existing Skoda cars in India. The Czech auto maker has currently four models available in India-Skoda Yeti, Skoda Fabia, Skoda New Laura and Skoda Superb.

As part of the plans for India, Skoda will be launching premium mid-sized sedan Skoda Rapid that will be in direct competition in sales of Volkswagen Vento. Skoda is expected to price this car marginally cheaper than VW Vento to attract sales. As per the information available, Skoda Rapid is superbly built and has more room inside compared to other cars in the same segment.

Meanwhile, Skoda also plans to stiffen competition in the SUV segment with the launch of new version of Skoda Yeti. The new Yeti will be cheap with 110bhp engine under the hood. Yeti is expected to be launched later this year. An automatic version of the SUV by Skoda is also expected to be in India next year.Skoda Laura RS, the sports version of the existing Laura is expected to arrive this August. Skoda has reportedly put in a stiff suspension in the Laura RS so as to equip it with sports car capabilities. However, the engine will be the same.

Skoda’s under Rs 4 lakh hatchback which is in the making will be the most anticipated launch. The under-four metre saloon will be a car based on Volkswagen Up platform and will be available in the segment next to Skoda Rapid. It is expected to be launched in early 2013. Besides, reports of next generation Skoda Laura being renamed as Skoda Octavia are also around. With the new name and features, Skoda Octavia (Currently Skoda Laura) will rival Volkswagen Jetta and is expected to be unveiled next year.
