Skoda Yeti low cost variant likely to be launched

If reports are believed, after the launch of Skoda Yeti Crossover six months back, the car didn’t do well and response was below expectation. And the main reason behind the downfall of this model was its expensive price tag. If we go through the sales chart of Skoda Yeti, the company managed to sell only 900 units in market ever since its launch which concludes sales figures of less than 150 units per month, much less than what was expected from the exceptionally competent car.

Report says that since Skoda added good number of luxurious attributes in its Skoda Yeti and as a result the price tag automatically got elevated. But as we all know Indian car market is very price sensitive and most of the features added in Skoda Yeti were of no practical use, the car sales fall down under. But now as per recent reports, Skoda is again planning to gain the trust of Indian auto market by launching a low cost version of the Skoda Yeti Crossover. The low cost version is expected to hit the market in the end of 2011 and might encompass a small diesel heart under the hood. With details about the type of diesel engine still undisclosed by the company, it is speculated to incorporate 1.6 Liter TDI engine which is expected to produce approximately 105 Bhp of power and 250 Nm torque.

However, according to relevant sources, Skoda also intends to unveil its new petrol engine soon. Complying with the current status of fuel prices, the car can come fitted with the mighty 1.2 Liter TSI turbo petrol engine, since this engine is already used in Skoda Yeti launched in foreign market. Further, it is said that Skoda might execute the cost cutting process by removing the gadgets like hill descent control and four wheel drive which offer main contribution in the expensive costing of the car. As for now, main competitors of Skoda Yeti in Indian market are Toyota Fortuner, Ford Endeavour, Mitsubishi Outlander, Hyundai Santa Fe and Maruti Grand Vitara. And if the pricing issue of Skoda Yeti is cleared, then it can grab good market share in Indian auto market.
