For the very first time, clear spy images of Mahindra Thar facelift have cropped up. The popular and beloved off-roader seems to have undergone a complete revamp along with various other updates. The new Mahindra Thar is scheduled to be launched tomorrow and it seems that most of the panels, both on the exterior as well as on the interior of the car, have either been changed or upgraded, while sticking to Thar's off-road heritage.
On the inside, the dashboard from the mm540 Jeep has been discarded for a more stylish, dual-tone color scheme. Interiors feature a new triple-pod instrument console, behind a steering wheel with silver accents, which is borrowed from the Bolero. Center console constituting the air-conditioning units with new silver vents, also flaunt 'Thar' branding. The macho vehicle also incorporates new cup holders, AC controls and gear lever.
The revamped Thar features flared wheel arches, which merge into new, beefier bumpers. The grille has been re-profiled and the same has been done, with the bonnet. The car will also feature a redesigned exhaust, along with new foot boards and an updated side sheet metal design. You can also expect redesigned alloy wheels and hubcaps.
We hope that the current 2.5-litre DI diesel engine, which puts out 63 bhp @ 38000 RPM and 195 Nm of torque @ 1500-1800 RPM, is replaced with the 2.5-litre Low Cost Common Rail(LCCR) unit, that puts out 75 bhp @ 3200 RPM and 200 Nm of torque @ 14000 RPM, which is currently paired with the entry level Scorpio. We feel this will give the Thar, its much needed grunt. The Scorpio-derived 2.5-litre CRDe diesel engine outputting 105 bhp @ 3800 rpm and 247 Nm of torque @ 1800 rpm is expected to continue. CRDe and DI motors are mated to a 5-speed manual transmission. Thar comes with both Rear Wheel Drive system and a 4×4 system for the higher variants.
